Consumer Education Grade 11-12

Learners’ Instruction

This unit in consumer education consists of three lessons. There is a podcast concerning the lesson to listen and a number of video to watch in every lesson. The lessons are as follow:

  1. Consumer buying behavior
  2. Consumer bill of rights
  3. Consumer protection

At the end of every lesson there is an assessment that will be taken online. The grade of the assessment will be reported to the teacher and the student immediately the learner submits the test.
The instructor e-mail address will be provided to student so that they can be able to communicate with the instructor at any time. Also the students will have group emails to encourage collaborative learning.

Teacher’s/Instructor’s Materials

The intended audience will be grade 12 students who will be graduating from high school soon. They are computer literate because many have been taking computer application courses as an elective. The audience is expected to have prior knowledge of consumer education that they have learned from preceding grades in their education career.

This instructional unit will be expected to meet the following standards.

Ohio Technology Standard 5: Technology and information Literacy.

Students engage in information literacy strategies, use the Internet, technology tools and resources and apply information management skill to answer question and expand knowledge.


Michigan Consumer Education Standard 8. All students will practice responsible consumer and producer behavior, rights and responsibilities

Instructional objectives for the lessons

At the end of the lessons learners should be able to:

  1. Define consumer buying behavior
  2. State and explain types of consumer buying behavior
  3. State and explain rights of consumers
  4. State and explain types of purchase decision
  5. Define Identity theft
  6. Explain common types if ID theft
  7. Explain measures an individual should take to safeguard personal information

Technology access to the learners

The learner will require the following to be able to retrieve the lesson.

  1. Internet connection.
  2. Media player
  3. Mouse

Professional Development

The instructor as part of professional development produced several Podcasts. He also used Dreamweaver to develop the tutorial that contained the content knowledge.  Podcast was produced in every lesson in order to appeal to both visual and auditory learners at the same time.
